Just a follow up to add: It passed the sink-or-swim test with flying (floating?) colors.

I went out on Fathers' Day with my son to a local lake to do some fishing. We were only on the water for about an hour before a storm came in, but the boat performed admirably. Even with the two of us in the small boat there was plenty of freeboard. It was stable enough that I had no qualms about standing up in the boat to flycast.

At my school I was in a boat building class and we built a boat similar to this from scratch. My boat building and woodworking teacher is Michael Brolly, he has done some cool things with wood.

Thanks for the feature! I think this is the 10th time one of my projects has been featured on Toolmonger. :)

I sure hope this thing floats, it'd be a damn shame if I spent all this time working on it only to have it sink.

My wife keeps threatening to make a flower planter out of it. :)
