It's used in disposable diapers and feminine hygiene products, and if you mix it into soil, it'll hold rainwater and let it out again when the soil gets dry. Any place that sells a decent range of gardening products will probably have it, these days. You can also buy one or another superabsorbent polymer as novelty "instant snow" powder.
