I have a Genesis, except it's not in the exclusive brown color and mine has the side burner.

Some would argue that having the knobs facing up is to encourage buying the optional $50 cover, but I'm guessing Weber put the knobs facing up so they don't get bumped when you roll the grill out of a crowded garage.

The only problem I have with it is that I miss the charcoal cooked taste of the old Weber kettle grill.

You didn't miss it, this grill doesn't have a side burner.

And I am familiar with the Kenmore grill you are talking about, it's one of our best sellers so far this season. Although I must admit, I was surprised that out of the 4 color options available, vanilla seems to be the most popular.

Can anyone tell me why Weber thought it was a good idea to put the controls facing up, so that rain water and melting snow could have a better chance of pooling and dripping onto the valve?

This grill looks almost identical to the Kenmore grill my girlfriend just bought on sale at Sears (except for the controls on the front panel) for $450, except the Kenmore has better casters, it doesn't have the hose hanging down off the side, and it has a side burner (did I miss that on this grill?).

Oh, and the Kenmore blue matches the race car...

I'm no BBQ expert - and I have been sucker-punched in the past buying grills that did not last- but I looked at this grill last weekend - but decided to spend the considerable extra bucks for a S-420 - that HD was discounting by 10% for veterans. What I did not like about the Gensis series was the side to side orientation of the burners.
