Dealmonger: Black & Decker 12V Drill For $40
By Kevin Pace
Amazon has marked down the Black & Decker 12V Smart Select Drill to $40 — that’s a considerable drop from its original price of $155. The drill comes with a battery, DC charger, and double-ended screwdriver bit, and Black & Decker backs it with a two-year warranty. The drill also features the innocuous “smart select” images around the chuck, a visual representation of what each setting should be used for.

Too bad that the battery probably won’t fit into a better tool - since it may almost be worth the price of the tool.
It is also too bad that the venerable makers of some of the first power tools - and the innovators of tools like the Super Saw Cat - have now decided that the B&D logo should go on mostly low-end products.
I’m more concerned, however, about a trend that I see with their Porter Cable brand - that they seem to be using for DIY’er tools - a far cry from the old Rockwell (not the new Rockwell) branded PC tools - like my “locomotive sanders” and Versa Planes.

Regardless the original price, it still doesn’t seem like much of a deal. You can get an 18v Ryobi for that price.

Ryobi also has a 12 volt , speed-light combo, 2 batts, 2 speed drill and a flashlight for 29 bucks at HD on line this week. Drill is pretty good, it’s like the p200 but with a smaller footprint.
