That tumbler will stay put on a countertop or workbench, but it will take itself apart if you're not careful. Run it for a few hours, and go over all of the bolts carefully. Any bolt that's loose should be blue locktited and retightened.

I've been looking at that vibratory tumbler- does it need to be clamped to the surface it's on, or does it stay in place?

In a different vein I bought the 5 Lb. Metal Vibrator/Tumbler from Harbor Freight and it has proved to be a real winner when it comes to removing the rust from bolts you don't want to replace and tools found where the kids 'stored' them in the back yard.

When you buy this, wait for a sale, and while you are waiting, buy a bunch of replacement belts off of ebay. The belts from Harbor Freight don't last very long, some give up the ghost in less than 24 hours. The ebay belts I bought lasted much much longer. If you're too impatient for ebay, just go to the ol' o-ring emporium, and bring the old belt with you. Eventually the pulley on the motor dies, but it took quite a while. Plus, the lortone tumbler will use your HF tumbler drum- and if you need a small drum for your lortone, the HF unit is much cheaper.

I used mine for rock tumbling- for ball milling or something else that takes only a few hours, versus weeks of tumbling, these should do the trick.
