A Tractor Lift For Those Inevitable Pit Stops

You can easily tip over a push mower to access the underside of the deck and the blade — trying this with your riding mower probably won’t do it or your back any good. This tractor lift from Ohio Steel raises and holds the front end of the tractor in the air so you can do maintenance underneath.
Ohio Steel manufacturers this lift from 4″ x 4″ steel and gives it a powder-coated finish. The lift bar telescopes to provide a maximum of 275lbs of lift, while a heavy-duty steel safety bar secures the tractor once it’s up. The entire lift weighs 60 lbs and measures 27″ W x 54″ H x 22-1/2″ D.
Craftsman also sells a version of this lift that’s either made by Ohio Steel or is a pretty faithful copy. They sell their version for $130, while the Ohio Steel version retails for $190 at Costco. If your tractor doesn’t have a compatible front bumper, the lift comes with a bracket you can attach to your tractor.

I’ve never had a problem using either a floor jack, or a small bottle jack to do this job, then, of course, using jack stands to hold it in place while the work is done. Though this is a one-step solution, a jack and stands can be had for much less and they can be used for many other jobs than just your lawn mower.
