As many mentioned this pencil design has been around for decades. Howeve, when pressure was applied to the normal style pencil, from when we were kids, the lead cartridges would push out the back. The bought a two pack of pencils at Lowes. The Swanson pencils have little lead cartridges that have flared wings to keep them from pushing back up through the pencil when you apply pressure. Also, when the lead dulls down you can turn the led piece around to get double use out of each cartridge.

I remember having regular pencils like this while in school in the 80s,
---------
Bensia is the company that originated that style of pencil in the 60s. I wouldn't be surprised if they manufacture the Swansons also.

I remember having regular pencils like this while in school in the 80s, we would use the tips as darts since if you put any real pressure on the tip they tended to come shooting out the back when the plug came off. Seems that the plug at the back end got damaged and the interference fit didn't hold anymore. Can't tell if this looks any better or not, just a different shape.

Interesting idea, however, how long before you lose that little plastic cap? I suspect it would go missing right after it's first use.
