Hi,

I lost a nice box of screws, washers, and fasteners from tiny picture, deck, drywall, machine, wood, electric, metal screws, nuts and washers accumulated over twenty years of odd and end home jobs etc. Do you have any thing like this Vs too much of one type, or know where I might find a way to replace ?

If you ever go by Stanton, Texas you ought to stop in at Sam's Surplus. You can spot it from I-20 by the Jeep hanging from a crane in front. He's got long tables in the back covered in miscellaneous parts for, the last time I was in, .$50 a pound, and tables of mixed nuts, bolts, screws, washers, etc., you-pick-em for $1.00 a pound, a lot of it really high quality fasteners in all kinds of sizes. Nice folks, too. I used to buy surplus navy oxfords in good shape there for about $5.

My wife pointed this sale out to me a few years ago (she's definitely a keeper). 5 or 6 years ago, I broke from my Dad's tradition of thousands of screws in Folgers cans and organized them by size and type in those black and yellow Stanley organizers with the removable boxes (Zags?). It's nice not to have to dump 100s of screws out on the bench to find a handful of the same size.

My response to her was - yes, its a good deal, but not after I factor in my time to organize them.

Any Toolmonger over 30 already has a five pound box of screws. And one of bolts. And one of nuts. And another of hose clamps. Probably one of drill bits. One of mystery miscellaneous hardware too. ;-)

I bought a mixed bag of bolts from McFeely's a while back, and got mainly one size, and not a very useful size to me.

So you may get what you pay for.
