The Eyeballing Game
The Eyeballing Game should come with a warning — it’s that addictive. The idea here is to see how close you can come to making the mark without measuring, just by gauging distance and angle with the Mark I eyeball.
The series of seven tests pit you against the types of challenges Toolmongers face all the time. I scored higher than the overall average with a 3.92 — but it’s very clear that I need to keep the tools and measuring gear around.
Check it out and see how you compare. But be warned: It’s harder than it might first appear. Then again, some of the old-timers who’ve been eyeballing since before most of us were born will likely have no trouble at all.

Thanks for posting this! I haven’t been able to get much below a 3.xx so far. That stupid “Triangle Center” test keeps screwing me up!
My 2.54 didn’t last long on that top 10 lists.
Strongpoints: Right angles, Bisecting angles, convergence points.
Weakpoints: Center of circles, parallelograms, triangle centers
Time for one more before lunch is over…
Oh, I love Matthias’ website. He has tons of great woodworking and Lego stuff.
My personal favorite is his CNC box joint jig:

I love that insane box joint at the bottom of the page.
The sawmill page is good tool pron too.
LOL, that’s ok Lee the parallelogram is the one that puts the hurt on my score. I did it well one time and that’s about it.
2.27….gosh, my carpal tunnel is acting the hell up.
yeah, that parallelogram… i think it has something to do with the eye trying to force a depth perspective thing or something. I’ve been doing well on the center of trianle and convergence points, those are sweet.
I was at 1.8 through the first 2 rounds. Then the ol’ calibrated eyeball got tired of staring at a white screen in the dark I guess… 3.34 will do.
