Hitachi’s Mean Green Miters
By Sean O'Hara
Hitachi recently announced their latest entry to the miter saw market: the model C8FSHE 8-1/2” sliding compound miter saw. Of course, they’ve draped it in the funky green color scheme that’s become the trademark look for Hitachi’s power tools — it seems to produce a love-it-or-hate-it vibe in many tool guys, even before they try the saw.
It looks like Hitachi decided to dance with the one who brought them — they updated the reliable CF8B platform and added a few new twists like a laser guide and LED worklight. And if you’re not down with the LED lights and lasers, Hitachi also offers the C8FSE which remains the solid road dog the platform is built on, minus the trinkets.
The price tag will be around $340 for the C8FSE or $370 for the C8FSHE.

I love the fact that sliding compound miter saws are getting cheaper. But going with an 8-1/2″ blade really limits your blade options. They either should have used a 10″ or a 7-1/4″ blade. I know they are probably trying to make sure they can cut through 4x material, but go down to the store and try to find a 8-1/2″ blade.
