The reversible rubber pads don't scratch and hold small items firmly without crushing them. Eric is right. The best holder for a connector is its mate. PS: If you're doing bulk cable assembly, simply clamp the opposite gender connector of what you'll be working on into the vice and you can quickly swap out connectors as you tin all their pins in a batch.
