can you use the switchblade replacement blades on the old milwaukee bits or do you have to but the new self feeding bit that comes with it i would hate to buy a new bit if i can just use the replacements on my old milwaukee self feed bits

A selfeed bit has a tapered “lead” screw at its center - very much like an auger bit. When you start drilling the lead screw pulls the bit into the wood and then the cutting teeth engage to cut the actual hole. The advantage is that unlike Hole-saws or Forstner Bits thare is much less (if any) feed pressure required.

This may sound really niave/stupid, but what are self-feed bits? I’ve been asking friends and trying to look them up on the web, but friends don’t know and the web only seems to know where they are sold.

Very interesting news. We use selfeeds more than any other type of bit and probably drill hundreds of holes per day. We will have to try these out to see how convenient they are and if they offer a cost competitive edge.
One problem that I can see is that if the bit gets separated from a misplaced replacement blade - then there will be no economy - but actually the reverse will be true.
