We used Maglites as combination nightstick/flashlights when I was a Corporal of the Guard at Marine Barracks 8th and "I". Less weight on the hips with one less item to carry. We were trained to carry the flashlights over our shoulders (in our off hand), grasping the Mag right behind the bulb. That allowed us to use the light to illuminate and still be able to wield the light as a nightstick quickly.
Some of the NCOs received training in the Tonfa style. Seemed a little too "Bruce Lee" to me so I never bothered to apply for the training.

I am not sure people need more help in making mag lights a club. I would prefer to carry a collapsible asp and a smaller flashlight. lighter weight and not as intimidating if you are not using them.

Be careful with swinging the 6 Cell maglights. I've compressed batteries in the past to the point where they only work when the light is horizontal or pointing down.

D-cell maglites are definitely dual-use, any cop can tell you that. I once came home one night, and as I was getting out of my car, this dude was briskly walking right toward me, carrying a big old maglite(turned off, btw)...and he walked right by me...but my adrenaline shot up, just like it would have, had he been carrying a gun...

It'd probably be a better idea to have the handle down towards the lens end, making the heavier (and probably more durable) battery end the business part of the "club".

As long as your "flashlight" is ON, it's not a weapon, handle or no. If you hit someone with this thing with it off, and you're not in a situation where you'd normally carry a flashlight, it might look like you intended to use it as a weapon.
