It’s Just Cool: 87-Tool Swiss Army Knife
By Dan Kitchen
In response to this recent post, Toolmongers have come out strongly in favor of pocket knives. Almost everyone agrees that pocket knives come in handy all the time, even if you don’t always have the right tool for a given situation. But if your pockets are big enough to carry this 87-tool Swiss Army knife, you will always have the right tool for the situation.
The Wenger Swiss Army knife claims the distinction of Largest Penknife in the 2008 Guiness Book of Records. It beat out a previous version of the same knife by Wenger that only had 85 tools. Basically, they glommed together every kind of SAK to produce this 9″-thick pocket knife that weighs almost 3 lbs.
You can put the 87 tools to over 140 different uses. The tools include a wood saw, a cigar cutter, a fish-scaling tool, very specialized ones like the bike-chain-setting tool, and obscure tools like the Shortix labratory key. But they fail to mention the 88th tool: the knife makes a great paperweight.
Street pricing for this monstrosity is about $1,200, but I found one for a cheap grand.

It seems the perfect knife for a friend, but he wants to know if it comes in black. Anyone know?

“i dont see a twine holder. just think if MacGuver had one of those he could have gone to a 10th season.”
That never would have happened with this knife. He would have been killed while trying to figure out which of the 87 tools he needed to save himself…
