I made a set like this with some angle iron and a little welding. No rare-earth magnets, and certainly not as pretty, but they work just fine.

I'm with scubasteve on this. I got a HF brake, and with a little practice was able to turn out some complicated pieces (a receiver chute for my air hockey table). I got an HF ornamental bender as well, and it will put a nice 90-degree bend in 1/4" flat stock.

I'd suggest ponying up just a little extra and getting an honest metal brake. You can pick up a cheapie at HF for under $30. No, its not going to bend 14 gauge or anything larger than about 12", but it'll be more versatile.

Oh man, I've got to get me one of these! I was just doing a bunch of custom bend work in some thin sheet stock the other night and this would've made my life a wohle lot easier.

I have a set of these, and I've used them for several years. The hardest part is getting the bend line exactly where I want it. But with practice, it can be done. Also keep in mind that the thicker material will require much more vise pressure (and, consequently, more 'umph' on the crank), so be aware of your vise's capacity and your own strength. Despite this, for the money you can't get a better bend anywhere.
