Cheap-Ass Tools: Helping Hands Welding Jig
By Benjamen Johnson
What could be better then a set of vise-grips? How about two pairs of knockoff vise-grips as helping hands? This welding jig from Pittsburgh bolts to your workbench and allows you to clamp pieces in position with two 10″ locking pliers.
Each set of pliers is welded to an arm with two 360° swivel joints, so you can move the pliers to just about any position. The entire jig has a 27-1/4″ capacity, and the jaws can hold materials up to 2-3/4″ wide.
The Helping Hands welding jig retails at Harbor Freight for $20, but don’t pay that much — just wait a while — they regularly go on sale for $9.
