It’s Just Cool: My Tractor Is My Car
By Sean O'Hara
We love that independent spirit that tools guys have. This Toolmonger decided his tractor could look as good as, or better than, his car. Then he backed it up with some creative time with a welder and a little elbow grease, and voila! — a daily driver with more pull than your work truck.
Of course, we’re sure the top end on this honey is pretty low — but the sheer time it took to build has got to be worth a little sacrifice in the speed department. We’re betting no one at the local Dairy Queen has bigger dubs than this guy.

That’s a relatively rare Minneapolis-Moline UDLX Comfortractor, an attempt by M-M to cater to provide both a tractor and a car to farmers during the Depression. Didn’t work out. Hemmings Classic Car had a story about it in its April 2005 issue:

In Russia and former Soviet Republics, even the police use tractors like cars.

A friend of mine just bought a bona fide “Belarus” made-in-USSR Soviet “traktor”. It’s very cool.

As Dan said, this, or was, a stock tractor from Minneapolis-Moline, 1938 if I recall correctly. This is not the work of someone with with creative talent, but of someone with restorative talent. And yes, that’s the original color.

These are fairly rare, there is only one in our area that they drag out for the local tractor shows. Lots of road time is murder on tractor tires. Our operation back home was spread out many miles around the home place and we had to replace tires several times on our 4 main tractors.
