"Can anyone design a miter saw with decent dust collection??"

As far as I can tell, no. I had to design a rubber hood behind mine (Makita) just to aid getting the dust to suck up into the vacuum channel. It works fairly well, but only when the sawdust is being thrown directly at the input and when the vacuum bag is relatively empty. A hood like this would negate a lot of sweeping under my miter stand though.
