I was just stripping some paint with mine today. Beware this is not as strong as a corded model. You really can't lean on it that hard, it has overload protection circuitry that trips out if you do. Run time is about 10-15 mins depending on how enthusiastically you use it.
That said, it works great for those quick grinding jobs, and appears to be quite durable.
Battery does not last as long as Dewalts 36 v tool (that spins about half as fast)but Makita is much lighter and seems to me to be much better built.Makita puts Dewalts 18v "cut off" tool to shame.
Still waiting on Milwaukees V28 version.
I think I may prefer a paddle switch for cordless grinders. May save a little of the batteries charge.
I havn't compared it to Dewalts new nano 28 volt grinder, which I believe is very much like their 36 v model.

Julian:

A) Makita is not an advertiser, and even if they were they'd have no control over our editorial space.

B) Indeed, many distributors do sell the "bare tool" without batteries and charger for around $100. If you already own Makita's 18V li-ion batteries and charger, this would be a great option for you. If, however, you don't, you're going to need the kit version.

C) The BGA452 kit runs at least $10 higher than this "deal" price via most distributors. Google Products lists many online stores offering the tool for $325+. Another look with slightly different search terms did turn up one in the $200 range, but close examination indicates that even though the ad didn't say "bare tool," it was the BGA452Z, the Z indicating it's a bare tool.

If you know of a place that readers can buy this tool (with batteries and charger) -- or for that matter the "bare tool" plus a separate two-battery/charger set -- for less than $310, please share. Hell, I might buy one myself. I've been thinking about picking one up.

A good angle grinder is super nice. 90% of the time I need it, it's a tool of last resort. Something is stuck and needs to come off. Something is too big to go where it needs to go. Something is blocking something that I need access to. Like a reciprocating saw, it's very comforting to be able to pick up an angle grinder, know it's going to work predictably, and fix the problem NOW.

If this is built anything like my corded makita angle grinder, combined with the oompf of my 18v lith-ion makita impact driver, I want one. My grinder has been through the wars over the last (where did the time go?) 8 years and is still running great.

Why is this listed as a deal? They can be had all day long for $99 bare tool, so $310 for the tool and one battery and a charger can hardly be described as a deal.

Is this an advertiser of your guys?
