I use this and the dirt doesn't float to the top as some you might think. The fins on the bottom stop the water from circulating to the top when your rubbing your mitt across it to loose and remove some of the dirt. Everything actually settles to the bottom. But also a bigger precaution you could do is the Two bucket method. One bucket filled with water (Rinse) and the grit guard and another filled with your favorite car soap mix with water. Every time you go over the with your mitt and need to re dunk it. First just rub it against the grit guard in the rinse bucket to remove the dirt and then strain it over the floor and then dunk you mitt into the soap bucket and go over the other panel.

This just reduce the chance of rubbing dirt over your paint and having that much dirt in the soap bucket.

Alternatively just don't put the mitt or sponge all the way to the bottom of the bucket. Umm... think I'll pass.
