Watch Repair Tool Kit

By Sean O'Hara

When you have the right tools for the job, you’ve already won half the battle. When you’re removing a link from your wristwatch or changing the battery out, having the tools is close to 90 percent of the battle. If you have them it’s a breeze — and if you don’t, you’re going to mess up that shiny timepiece.

Kits like this one run around $34, about the cost of one link removal and a battery change, so the kit pays for itself with one or two uses. The tool set includes five screwdrivers (four regular and one Phillips), a small hammer, pop-up case opener, spring bar remover, two push pin removers, and a screw-type link remover.

Whatever the cost, it definitely beats shuffling around the mall trying to get your watch right again.

Tool sets that professionals use on high end swiss watches are alot more expensive and only useful if well educated on the specific tool. If you have a watch you care about and are thinking about attempting to fix it yourself, chances are high that you will damage it in some fashion. It is very common that watchmakers fix watches that have been poorly worked on or damaged by someone new to the practice.
