The jaws stay parallel and the gripping power is incredible. It really isn't fair to compare these to the old knuckle buster adjustible wrenches or a slip loint pliers. Nothing delecate about these. It's more like a precision machinits vice or a portable arbor press. Actually I modified the jaws on one of these to press in metal pins in a recessed part. Until you have tried these you can't image how well the can hold a piece of metal. Great to hold small parts while grinding or polishing on a wheel.
