My tool belt always has a small sharpener in it or I just use my pocket knife.

Seriously, the amount of labor involved to hook this up to sharpen one pencil seems large compared to just sharpening it by hand.

teachers need these. My mom is a teacher and when I was a kid she made me sharpen boxes and boxes of pencils with a non-power sharpener.

The tool is called a “Dowel Pointer.” Chamfered ends make for easier insertion. See here (scroll down page):

Does not do carpenters pencils, nor is there another model to do so.
