Re;
So call me Curious George, but I like to explore. Living in Nevada and going off road alot, there are a ton of mines everywhere. And yes, against all of my wifes nagging I go in them thinking that some may have dropped a nugget of gold.
==============================================
You shouldn't go underground with less than three sources of light. I would recommend a couple of headlamps {one halogen/xenon LED hybrid headlight like the Petzl duo as your main, light and one LED headlamp as a back up like the Petzl Tikka and one hand carried dual bulb type light like a Surefire A2 Aviator} Your life may depend on having a source of light.
 I hope your not doing this alone, without proper training and support. Some old mines are very unstable, Not to mention the possibility of being contaminated with colorles oderless poison gasses. CO poisoning is something you don't want to experience.

Jack,

how about 1000' of extension cord?

Worse case scenario they can follow it to find you trapped under a rock!

Seriously though, I'd love to do that sort of thing. Not a lot of mines around here though.

Yes, I saw this one at the Restoration Hardware in Princeton NJ yesterday. The light looked pretty impressive... they claim an 11hour battery time.

And yes, against all of my wifes nagging I go in them thinking that some may have dropped a nugget of gold. To those who have ever been in a mine shaft, you know that a mini mag does you no good what-so-ever, hence these portable 'sun' flashlights. Only problem, with the average battery life on 25-30 mins, I can only go about 12 mins in to cave when you count from climbing and falling before I have to turn around. Is there a light (maybe nuclear powered), that can lend to an hour if not hour(S) of fun with out carrying a backpack of batteries???
