The Awesome Multi-Purpose Brush

The next time you’re in the hardware store, look for multi-purpose brushes in the plumbing section. These 4″ tin-handled brushes are commonly known as “flux” or “acid” brushes, and you can use them to spread pastes, greases, and liquids — almost any basic brushing task. And they’re cheap enough to throw away if when they get nasty.
My local big box hardware store sells packs of five brushes for slightly under $2 – quite the bargain. Although soft enough to safely brush delicate surfaces, these bristles are also tough enough to handle viscous honey-like fluids. Even if plumbing isn’t your thing, you may want to buy a pack and keep it near your adhesives. With care, a brush can last for repeated use, but it’s just easier to consider them disposable.

In larger lots these are often easy to find for $.05 - $.10 each. I use them as glue brushes.
