It’s Just Cool: The Tank Tool
By Rick Reimundez
The name says it all: it’s a driver set that looks like a tank. Sold as a promotional item primarily, the Tank Tool is pretty functional, too. The tank’s turret and cannon make up a detachable screwdriver handle, and the treads pull double duty as socket and bit storage. There’s even a tray built into the center body of the tank to hold loose screws and other fasteners –plus a mini screwdriver. Hell, this “tank” is better equipped than some household “tool kits.”
Besides the standard fare of Phillips and flat head bits, the Tank also include three Pozidrive, five hex, and seven Torx bits. And not satisfied to be just a decent screwdriver set, it also includes a socket adapter that attaches to the screwdriver handle to drive the fourteen included socket heads — both metric (6mm to 12mm) and SAE (3/16” to 1/2”). That’s enough to cover nearly any minor job around the house.
Now for the bad news: it’s not for sale in any of the common retail channels that I could find. You can buy it wholesale from the manufacturer, but the minimum order is at least $100 (about a dozen tanks) at $9 apiece. Group buy, anyone?

Sean and Chuck should buy a couple dozen and badge ‘em as Toolmonger tools–I’d throw you fifteen bucks for one.

Seriously nrChris. Sean and Chuck should ‘re-brand’ these and either sell them or give them away as promos.
I’d take one for $15 as well. Especially if it said ‘toolmonger.com’ on it or something.

That’s a great idea guys. I was going to bring that up as well but you beat me to it.
I was also thinking - hmm.. I must have at least a dozen buddies who are into tools who would love this for a Christmas/Birthday/Hanukkah/Father’s Day present.
Then again - I’d only need eleven. I want one for myself.

Heck, I’d be in for two!

Neat idea, but I already have a plethora of cheap Chiwanese bits and sockets.

I’d also take one for $15. Would be great to just keep one the workbench for minor things. Is there enough room inside the tank to store a 1\4″ ratchet?
