DeWalt’s New “Oxford” Work Shoe

By Chuck Cage

DeWalt recently released a whole slew of heavily-branded shoes intended for various work tasks.  Our favorite: the “High Performance Lightweight Oxford” in black (pictured).  It reminds us more of a Timberland hiking shoe than what appears in our minds when we think “work shoe,” but kudos to DeWalt for offering something a little different.

DeWalt claims that the molded rubber sole extends around the sides of the shoe to stabilize your foot on uneven surfaces, while a rubber toe bumper protects your toes a bit and accepts scuffs and wear better than the shoe itself.  They say the rubber sole also provides oil and slip resistance.  Additional features: removable arch support, suede-leather uppers, and a reflective collar and side patch.

If nothing else, you could wear these with jeans to parties to retain a little tool-guy cred without scaring people with your steel-toes.

DeWalt offers men’s sizes from five to 13, and street pricing starts around $75.

I’m pretty sure I would melt a critical part off of those with hot sparks or slag: either the lace loops or the rubber ends. I wonder if they are flame retardant?

The wrap-around sole does look like it would be good for working on a roof, tho’. Wonder if they come in wide?

They look well suited to working in a motorcycle shop though… Hmmm…

How about going from the woodshop to the basketball court with your kids? My work boots don’t cut it. And football season’s beginning…
