Dealmonger: A $3 Sewing Awl
By Chuck Cage
After all the great response to our coverage of the Speedy Stitcher, we’re happy to pass on a tip from reader nrChris: Harbor Freight is currently offering a coupon that’ll land you a cheap sewing awl for just $3. If you’re thinking about messing around with one of these, this might be a good start.

I bought one today on the way home from work only to have my wife snag it before I could get it out of the package!! Oh well, at least it will go to good (better her than me) use.

So I stopped by and picked up a few of these to stash around for when I may need them. At $3 each, why not?
One thing though, these are not nearly as nice as the original (one of which I picked up last week for almost 7 times the price). You can tell the needles aren’t nearly as nice, definitely not as sharp and the finish is not quite as good. Another thing is that the string that comes with these is not waxed which is also not nearly as nice. Is it $17 better? Maybe not, but there is definitely a difference to consider.

One of my favorite tools. And for $3? Buy lots!
