Does anyone have any comments on those little Chicago Tig / Arc welders that Harbor Freight is selling currently for $199?
I plan on just using it for minor boat maintenance welding
(I live on a trawler)
What do you think?

Am I the only one who gets cold shivers up my spine at the thought of holding a $6.00 piece of shrapnel in my hands spinning at 22,000 rpm? There is an old axiom, "You get what you pay for." In this case, it could be instant death.

I own one of these and several other HF air tools. They work for me as well as my other branded air tools and I heartily suggest them to friends looking for air tools for the home shop, for the same reasons you listed above.
I shop at HF often and most of the stuff will work great for home use, and if it does break, you can still afford to buy two more before you reach what a name branded item would cost. The one exception I can think of off hand is a welder, but that's for another article.
