Be careful using the 12V too much without recharging. My dad has something similar to this. He went hunting last year and kept leaving his truck door open, running the battery down. He wasn't too worried about it since he had this nifty tool. Problem was, he kept using the outlet on board to charge his cell phone up, so much so that when he went to jump start his truck, it didn't have enough juice!

WHOA. That's what I get for skimming. I just re-read and realized that this doesn't need access to the battery - it just does it through the cig lighter. And it's small enough to fit in the glovebox. Those are two definie advantages to the one I have. I'm going to check out the prices at the local B&D outlet and see if they have a good deal on a refurbished model.

I have something similar made by another company, and picked up at WalMart for around $30, if I'm remembering correctly. It works GREAT. I've used it many times for myself and others in the 5 years or so that I've had it, and wouldn't be without it. I seriously recommend something like this for every vehicle, or at least every household. Sometimes it's just not feasible to find someone else to give you a jump, and we've all been in situations where the available cables were just inches shorter than the closest possible distance between the two vehicle's batteries.

Now if I could only find the charger, which disappeared when we moved last year...
