Weeks Worth Of Fun And Educational Links

I stumbled across Kathryn Hake’s Vocational Information Center when searching for some ifnormation on plastic welding, and let me just say this: if you don’t have some spare time over the next few weeks, don’t look at it. This is easily the single largest gathering of links — good, active, well-managed, informational, and educational links — about welding, machining, landscaping, and about two-dozen other vocational areas that I’ve ever seen. Whether you’re interested in one of these fields as a vocation — or just want to learn a bit about them from a technical standpoint — this resource is for you.
When I first saw it, I thought Kathryn’s site would be all about career paths. No way! It includes lots of technical information and how-tos as well. For example, some of the links under welding include: ESAB’s welding university, forge welding, design of filet weld sizes, the gas-shielded metal arc welding handbook, an introduction to welding processes and equipment — the list goes on and on.
Expect the same level of detail about machining and carpentry as well.
According to the “about” page, Kathryn worked for 19 years as an instructional assistant in Pennsylvania vocational schools, but continues to support vo-ed via this excellent website.
Like I said, give it a look — but only if you have time. It’s addictive! From the link below, click on your area of interest. I’d at least give welding and machining a look.
