How To Install Carpet

My carpet is getting a bit old, and while searching for some information about installation — I’ve never done it before — I came across this post by Matt Weber over at Extreme How-To. Unlike most articles which feature lots of pictures — but very few that actually show the work in progress – Matt’s post includes very descriptive drawings that give you the low-down on everything from installing the underlay to cutting carpet properly, forming quality seams, and using a carpet stretcher.
If you’ve been thinking about maybe saving a few bucks by installing your own next time, it’s worth a look.

I’m ripping out carpet, not installing it, but the Extreme How-To site appears to be a goldmine of information. Thanks for the reference - I’ve already bookmarked not just the site itself but three specific articles that will be useful to me in the next few months. I like how they break things down without dumbing them down; give enough detail so that a total newbie isn’t confused by steps/skills that are presumed instead of specified (as some how-to’s do), while not insulting the intelligence of those with a good basic skillset.

My brother is a professional installer and although I’m not, I have helped him enough that I could do it on my own. I’d say this article about covers everything I know minus a detail or two. It should certainly be enough to get the job done.
