If the basic winch is worth 50 bucks, does it matter if the control may be junk? 4 Ford starter relays can be used to build a better control. Use the supplied remote to control the relays. No, the relays aren't continuous duty rated, but I used a similar set up daily for nearly ten years and never replace a relay.

I had just the opposite experience. Every fall I have to pull an 8x12 swim float, steel docks, and 3 aluminum boatlifts out of the lake so they don't get wrecked by the winter ice. It's usually an all afternoon project with chains, ratchet hoists and prybars.

I bought this winch and bolted it to a plate and brace assembly that allows be to drive a rod to lock it in place. Hooked the cable and had the float out in 10 minutes, each dock and lift about the same.

Admittedly, I'm not using it near the 2000 lb capacity pull, but it worked great for me. I should have done this a long time ago.

This is a piece of garbage. The remote switch cannot handle the current and the contacts burn out after a few uses. I have one, unfortunately.
