Correction: The Stanley FatMax Xtreme Auto Trigger Clamp DOES Work As A Spreader

The friendly folks at Stanley gave us a call to point out an issue with our review of their FatMax Xtreme auto trigger clamp. Apparently it does work as a spreader. Our bad.
With a little help from the guys at Stanley, we pulled harder on the end covers and while they seem fixed in place, they actually do come loose as you can see in this series of photos (continued after the jump).
Step 1: Remove the rubber-coated ends.
Step 2: Remove the the non-motorized clamp end.
Step 3: Flip it over.
Step 4: Re-install it.
Done! Considering that our review was entirely positive except for this one issue, I’d say the Xtreme is a winner.
It’s also worth noting that the Xtreme is now on sale! Street pricing starts around $25.

[…] In terms of material and construction, this clamp is virtually identical to the Fat Max trigger clamp, with the exception of color — the Xtreme is gray while the Fat Max is yellow — and the auto-close mechanism, which consists of a long spring that runs in a wide, flat channel down the clamp’s length when unfurled, rolling up into the grip as the clamp closes. You do pay a small price for the auto-close feature: while the Xtreme’s outer jaw remains moveable to allow you to position the clamp anywhere along the bar, it’s not removable, so you can’t reverse the jaw to apply the Xtreme as a spreader.
