Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the DeWalt 18v batteries are anywhere from 1300 to at MOST 2400mAh. Don't believe me? Take one of your old, dead packs apart before you recycle the thing and look.

It's a shame it takes that weird bulb. Using a pair of PL13 bulbs, of the type used in many other shop lights and DeWalt's own DC527 light, would reduce the number of distinct spares to stock, as well as giving the option to run just one bulb, or both.

As for runtime, I'd guess around 2 hours. I can't find amperage numbers for DeWalt's packs, but most of the competition's 18v packs use 2400mAH cells. 18 volts times 2.4AH yields 43.2 watt-hours. The bottom of that isn't usable, so let's say 40 watt-hours of usable energy from a brand-new pack. The bulb is rated at 38 watts, which would give about an hour from one pack, but since the unit takes two packs, let's guess two hours. In reality, slightly less because of less-than-perfect efficiency in the inverter circuitry, and substantially less if you're using old batteries.

However, 38 watts into a fluorescent will produce the same amount of visible light as a 200 or maybe a 250 watt incandescent bulb. This sucker is seriously bright!

I wonder what the run time is with a fresh 18v pack.

Anyways... I really like this thing, and I see myself buying it if I ever come across one at a better price. I have the snake light thing they make and I think that thing is brilliant

I'm already commited to another battery-line, but I really like this. I hope that this catches on for lots of these battery lines. I don't have a good shop-light at the moment. I've got a bunch of odds-and-ends lights that I turn on until I get enough light.

Great idea, but the price is a stopper. But Father's Day is coming. Maybe if I print your item and leave it lying around where my wife can find it....
