Wow everyone is making these now… first dewalt, then makita, and bosch!

I think you have it exactly backwards. The industry standard steel for large breakers is 1 1/8" - first sold by Bosch - and now adopted by the rest of the industry as the 'standard', due to everyone having extra bits of that size in their catalog.

Yes, we definitely plan to rent something like this when the time comes, though around here it's the smaller hardware stores (privately owned franchises) that double as tool rental shops - the Big Boxes don't rent much of anything except trucks to haul things home in.

And thanks for the welcome - nrChris pointed me here a while back, but I finally just took my first real look last night, and as is pretty clear already, I'm hooked and enthralled and spending far more time here than I should. Great site, guys!

Leslie: First of all, welcome to Toolmonger. I see you've been busy over the last few days on the site! The good news is that most big-box home stores rent these suckers pretty inexpensively. We've been meaning to get around to a tool-rental post to give everyone an idea of all the great stuff that can be had for $50-$100/day.

Well, I have a reason to have one - front and rear sidewalks that need to be replaced - but if I bought this I'd not have anything left for the materials I'd need to replace the walks once they're out of there. Too bad, this would be one of the ultimate toolfreak tools to own.
