I've hade three of them for close to 12 years and they do work well. I bought several extra 1/4 turn mounting brackets and have them in front & back of the house, in my shop and down on the garden house.

I first saw an ad from the manufacturer and ordered from them for, I think, $30 or so. One of the original has broken and needs to be replaced but the Harbor Freight store here in Raleigh doesn't carry them. I was looking for websites that do when I found this thread.

The one thing that has bugged me is that it doesn't work well when the cord gets wet - slips too much. But, yep, I'm gonna get a coupla more for here and the house at the coast - along with extra mounting brackets, those do break.

I finally picked up one of these from Amazon - it works great, even with a heavy gauge extension cord. Hey Toolmongers, you might want to add an Amazon link on this page.

@Leslie: it is portable, and comes with two wall mounts. So for example you could put one mount in your storage shed, and another on an exterior wall. Then when you want to use it outside, you could mount it for use, then move it back to the shed for storage.

I've had a couple of these for a couple years, nice to see the price hasn't gone up and they've left a simple working design as it is without adding more gimics. hope you enjoy it...

It is permanently wall mounted, or is there a way to make it portable? I'm definitely adding one to my must-buy list for the garage, a second one if it can be made portable or if I can figure out a way to mount it just inside the crawlspace for outside use.

I've bought one at a garage for $5 a few years ago. This thing really works. After a couple of years, dirt accumulated on the rubber winding wheel and caused slippage, but cleaning with alcohol and a spray of belt dressing restored full functionality.

I am the Reader, "Paul" that dropped by and told Chuck about the WonderWinder. Yes, it does seem gimmicky. But it really does work and solved the problem of twisted and knotted power cords. My brother, a professional contractor turned me on to this, and was amazed when he showed me how well it did the job. Since I have an electric mower, I need to use a long extension cord, and the WonderWinder has solved the problem of kinks and knots. And it actually made in the US.

Griots also has a version that appears to be virtually identical for about $8 more
http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=45502

You know.. for those tool snobs that refuse to buy something from Harbor Freight because , well, it's Harbor Freight. Thankfully I don't suffer from that affliction..

Too bad there's no Menards near me.

I have two I use (shop and garage) and love them.
They might look gimmicky, but will handle 150' of extension cord easily.
Menards runs these on sale for $12 a couple of times a year.

I have one (3 years owned) and it works perfectly. The only thing that stops it is if the end of the cord gets wedged in something. This is one "gimmicky thingamabob" that works.

I've seen this in one of those airline shopping magazines (skymall?). There are so many gimicky things in there that I wasn't sure if this was worth a second look. I mean come-on. It's in the same magazine as a toaster that does 2 hotdogs and 2 hotdog buns . . . no more, no less, and nothing else.

So does Paul say this really does the job? Cable-management is always an issue.
