These guys might be overstocked with fasteners and are just looking to get rid of them. The more fasteners the better in the long run, I guess.

It may be good for bulk-purchases. . .

. . .of fasteners that I wouldn't want in a billion-years!

Wood Screws, 2 finishes, I looked at the "oxide" finish.

Slot, only.

?!

I'll never buy another slot-screw in my life,
if Robertson screws exist for that application.

( hint: Robertson == Square-Recess )

MDMetrics, though, Finally!

I wish there were affordable screws that were like the ones sold on
http://www.LeeValley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=&cat=3&p=41306

( check the Self Drilling screws:

Guys: As Sean mentioned in the post, we find this particular site useful for bulk purchases. If you need 10 screws, there are lots of better places to look. If you need 5,000, this place cuts a pretty good deal.

Okay, that's irony. I ran across mdmetric while putting together the vernier caliper post a few days back. I took about 5 seconds to poke around the rest of the site, didn't "get it", and didn't return. That's the power of bad web design!

Now that Chris pointed it out, I've returned, explored, and bookmarked it. Definitely good to have in the arsenal!

Yeah, that's too bad they can't handle volumes of 200 or less. I can understand why but I buying several hundred fasteners of some oddball size I can't find elsewhere just isn't that practical for me.

In that respect McMcaster is still better.

They have some fasteners and assortments which are 200 pieces or less.

Also check out the web site of Maryland Metrics at mdmetric.com. I haven't ordered from them, but I have spent hours browsing. They have metric nails!

Is there anything like this for Nails as well? It seems like that's the only thing missing from this site! McMaster has some but their selection seems a bit limited.

They don't have screws that fit my laptop either. You can have 'em in black oxide, or in metric, but that finish and that size aren't available together. No better than McMaster-Carr!

One effect of mail-order distribution over retail space is that larger inventories are possible, since shelf space isn't a limitation. Moving from paper catalogs to online ordering should allow an even better selection, since catalog space doesn't matter anymore either.

The logical effect of this should be a giant super ultimate online hardware aisle, with every fastener conceivable. Such a wonder has yet to materialize. :(
