This looks much prettier than the contraption we have at work. My company is housed in a building where we share common areas and services with other small companies on the floor, and there's two jewelry appraisers here and they have a crazy looking contraption in the kitchen area that does the same thing. But this looks much better - at least it's self contained without all of the pipes and tanks, etc. all over the place. Although the lack of power switch is a bit disconcerting to say the least.

I got this one for my wife last Christmas. One problem I have with the design: I doesn't have a power switch. You have to plug it in to heat up the water (and make sure you don't plug it in without water since it will likely burn out the heating elements) and then unplug it when you're done.

Silly design - and unsafe too.

Other than that, it works fine.

mike,

We were actually told by our jeweller to use the espresso machine for cleaning at home. So, it should work. Depending on volume of steam of course it may work better/worse.

One note of caution on steam cleaning you jewelry, pearls and some other gemstones can't take the heat and can be damaged. Also, jewelry that uses adhesives to set stones can become separated by the heat. Finally just a general note, if the prongs that are holding a stone in place have been weakened or loosened, sometimes dirt is the only thing left holding the stone in place and after cleaning the piece of jewelry the stone can easily slip out. DOn't want anyone losing something precious to them.

i wonder if the frother on my espresso machine would do the same thing? i guess it depends on the temperature of the steam.
