It’s Just Cool: Seriously Shiny Diamond Plate Cabinets

By Sean O'Hara

Admit it — you love shop bling just as much as the next guy.  Forget platinum and gold, though.  This is diamond, baby, (diamond plate, that is) and lots of it — enough to form an 8′ work bench complete with cabinets.  The picture doesn’t really do it justice; this thing is 8′ long, 22″ deep, and over 6′ high.

You could try and BS your significant other by claiming that it’s easier to clean than wood (it is) or maybe that it’s very durable (it’s made of steel), but we know why you really want it: it’s just freakin’ cool, that’s why.

Cost really isn’t an object if you’re buying one of these, and that’s good because this this item definitely falls into the “if you have to ask” category.  Pricing starts at around $1,600 and goes up from there depending on which lighting and power options you choose.

I’ll put “Bling” as a lesser quality when it lands firmly in the Form over Function category.
Diamond plate on a work surface like the table top and shelf surface is a pain in the arse.

Exactly, GAC… Can you imagine actually trying to work on that hard, slippery, noisy surface? I’ll take good ol’ wood any day… And I actually think its amazingly ugly too…

    That hurts my eyes.

I am drooling all over myself. Too bad it is pricey–the bang for the buck really is not there on this one. Cabinets in my shop are free or cheap pulls from remodels / demo. They hold my tools just as nicely. But if I had unlimited money, that would be a different story.

[...] Ok, I guess I need to be more specific. Let’s try cool garage tools. Google gave me cool tools: garage sale maps. There was a link to some SERIOUSLY boring stuff that Popular Science was hawking. Oh wait… this isn’t a tool, but it involves tools, and would live in a garage (yep, I’m not going to say what it is, just go look). after digging back a few pages, I was able to find a ratcheting breaker bar that can handle 376 lbs/ft of torque. Then I hit another site. While I really like diamond plate… I think this is going a little too far. [...]
