I wanted to comment after I heard yesterday's podcast re: putting fans in every dry room.. and while I will agree with Sean that it's not a good idea for the bathroom, I actually have one in my kitchen and it's a lifesaver in the summertime. We don't have central air in my place, thought we have in-wall air conditioners in each of the bedrooms and the living room, so between the four of them we effectively have the whole apartment covered, but the kitchen has nothing, and especially if I'm making something in the oven during the summer, it can be agonizingly hot... but with the ceiling fan blowing it helps to circulate the air a bit more so you have some cooling via faster evaporation of the moisture on your skin, and it also helps to move the air around a bit and in doing so pulling some cooler air from other parts of the house that do have ACs.
