Deals: A Wire Cutter/Stripper for $2.42
By Chuck Cage
Deal King Sizod writes: “I wish I’d found these $2.42 cutter/strippers before I bought the $20 at home depot. It’s made of hardened steel, and the stripper has a plier nose and cutters. It strips fiber jackets and 10-20 gauge wire. They’re spring-loaded with a locking mechanism to keep ‘em shut when not in use.”

Strips fiber jackets? I’ve done fiber work, and I certainly wouldn’t trust a $2.42 tool. The slightest nick will result in serious signal loss.
For copper wires, it’s probably fine, though.

I would have to say that these look like quite a find at $2.42. I would buy a pair at that price.

I paid about double that for a set that has no spring mechanism, is made from stamped steel, and has crummy little rubber grips that always fall off. So to me this is a good deal, particularly where the use will be limited to residential DIY stuff.

My favorite set was $5 at Dayton Hamvention two years ago, and looks very similar to this. The ground cutting jaws make the difference, they’re much sharper and more accurate than the stamped jaws of the auto-parts-store variant.
Just don’t use it for crimping.

Yes looks like a nice tool but the postage of over $9 for me makes the deal less attractive.
