The title says it all: it’s a backhoe turned dragster “capable of speeds in excess of 140 MPH.” Damn.

I can’t find the specs on this bad boy anywhere on the net! No quarter-mile time, no 60-foot time, and most importantly, no skidpad cornering stats.
I’d love to see this thing ambling down the road at 8mph or so, orange triangle on the back, traffic lined up for a mile behind it, then suddenly Dr. Jekyll loses his composure and WHAM, a cloud of tire smoke is all that remains. That would be a good time.

I see that’s a JCB back hoe. This is probably not related to the JCB effort to set a world land speed record for Diesel powered vehicles. Their twin Diesel car hit 317 mph to set a record (August, 2006?).

Much better than the lawn mower videos from last week.
Now, I am wondering if they left it as a functioning backhoe. It would be really cool if it could drag down my street, dig the hole for a basement bulkhead, and drag off hitting its wheelie wheels. A guy can dream.

This thing looks seriously dangerious. I sure hope it was just because of the crappy video that I didn’t see a rollcage in the cab. Does this machine race in a class or was it made as a gag? Because if it was a gag then I lament the waste that it represents. Harboring this idea offends my delicate sense of esthetics, and mocks the sport of dragracing, to me, if that is the case.
So for me at least, no, the title does not say it all. Not by a long shot. The juxtaposition of this lazy post its antipodal content has given me a headache. Now I’m annoyed. Thanks.

I saw this backhoe perform live and in person at Con-Expo in Las Vegas. It was pretty awesome. Not at all practical, but it did gather some of the largest crowds at the show.
JCB also had their “Dance Squad” performing choreographed routines with backhoes. It was quite impressive to see what they could do with those machines.
