Rick: You're not kidding about no heated shop. We've been out in the shop here all week, and while it's not in the sub-20s, it has been in the sub-30s. It just seeps in through whatever you're wearing, doesn't it?

I guess I'll be playing with my daughter.. since I don't a.) have premium cable (thanks for the dig guys) :) and b.) don't have a heated shop. And in sub 20 degree weather, that means work just isn't happening.

I usually mount a metal plate under the bench like a huge washer (with matched holes for the vise) - spreads the load out a bit and keeps the wood from compressing.

Looks like I'll be rebuilding an engine tonight. Actually, I will be mounting my tail vise on my workbench. Not too difficult of a project, but the thing weighs close to forty pounds. Yikes. I may have to do a little re-engineering of my bench.
