Reader Find: Coleman’s “Tuff Duty” Garage Cabinets
By Chuck Cage
Qliedtke writes: “I put these cabinets in my shop and I am in love with them. There’s nothing like an organized shop. Building them was very simple, and mounting the wall cabinets was easy. The quality of these cabinets is the best part: All of the corners are protected with metal guards, and there’s a highly durable coating on the Melamine – Coleman calls it “WorkShield” – and they use high quality hinges and draw slides. I couldn’t be happier with them. I now smile every time I enter my shop.”
These come in quite a variety of pieces ranging from a wall cabinet to large storage cabinets and a workbench with a hutch.
I’ve always been a bit wary of these type of cabinets, as I wonder how well they’d hold up to abuse. Not that I really abuse my cabinets, but I do tend to bump into the doors pretty regularly, and — in the cabinets especially — I tend to store some nasty stuff in them from time to time, like chemicals and such. We have a metal cabinet in the Toolmonger shop for that purpose.
Of course, Qliedtke seems to have had a good experience with ‘em. Has anyone had a set of this type for a few years?
Street pricing starts around $60 for the small cabinet and ranges up to around $200 for the largest cabinets. Packages are available; right now Froogle locates a 6-piece set for around $490.

I had these in my last house and they worked very well. Pretty good value if you don’t want to step up to the better steel stuff.
