Reader Find: The Grex 23-Gauge Pinner
By Chuck Cage
Phillip writes: “If you need an almost invisible fastener, you need a 23-gauge pinner. However, most pinners — like the Porter-Cable PIN100 or the Senco FinishPro 10 — will leave you short and disappointed if you need a pin longer than 1″. That’s where the GREX P645 comes in: It can pin 3/8″ to 1-3/4″ 23-gauge pins in thirteen different lengths, plus stainless steel pins are available, too. The pin magazine is self-adjusting for pin length and a ‘lock-out’ version of the pinner is also available (model P645L) that prevents a dry-fire.”
In our shop we do more small trim-type work with pneumatics than large work. Of course, if you’re in the (house) framing or fencing business, that’s a different story altogether. Anyway, we generally end up doing smaller work — the kind for which this would be very, very well suited.
Thanks, Phillip! Froogle’s turning this up for around $270 right now, and the search also turns up replacement piston/driver assemblies for $25 on eBay. Looks like you can keep one of these running for some time.
