Preview: Stanley Proto’s Jumbo Ratcheting Wrenches

Stanley Proto’s generated a few interesting new products in this last month or so, and this one particularly caught our eye. Lots of companies are making ratcheting wrenches, but leave it to Proto — famous for their specialized aircraft and industrial tools — to make some of the biggest ones ones around: These single-ended wrenches come in eight sizes ranging from 1-9/16″ to 2-1/8″ and are 15-1/2″ to 19″ long.
Kinda makes my little ratcheting combos look puny.
Seriously, though, I think we all know by now how much of a timesaver ratcheting wrenches can be. But we’ve never had ratcheting wrenches bigger than 1″, so if we were stuck removing a large bolt, we’re right back in the stone ages with the old turn-remove-turn-remove. With these, we’ve be ready to go. They’re pretty thin, too, at 9/16″, so they’re not too portly compared to other large wrenches.
Though they are designed to accept high torque, Proto recommends — as do all sane ratcheting wrench manufacturers — that you break the bolt first before switching to the ratchet.
