Finds: DeWalt’s Wheeled Dolly-Style Air Compressor
By Chuck Cage
If you’ve ever carried an air compressor around a job site, you know how much of a beast they can be; They’re heavy, and often they’re shaped such that you can’t fit them easily on a dolly. DeWalt’s not only made an air compressor that fits well on a dolly — they made it the dolly, too.
This 120V, 1.1 HP electric air compressor features a cast iron cylinder and oil-lubricated pump, a four-gallon tank, and can deliver 4.0 CFM at 90 PSI, which is plenty for most pneumatic fastener tasks. Best yet, the handle on top pulls up to allow you to roll the unit around like a dolly — or maybe more like one of those overnight bags with (very big) wheels.
There’s a panel on top that allows you to stack other items — like a tool case or bag — on top of the compressor when you’re wheeling it around, and it also features a cord-wrap to keep you from getting tangled up. A front panel shows you the current internal pressure.
Street pricing starts around $275.

I smell a new standard. This is a forehead slapper of an idea. I wish I didn’t have a compressor, so I could buy this one.

It’s about time. This is a great idea for the smaller compressors.

I don’t see the big innovation, our shop compressor is a hand-me-down from grandpa and it came with wheels and a handle decades ago. Where’s the novelty?

[...] We wrote about DeWalt’s other new portable compressor last week, and this one seems to be equally well designed, though larger — and more targeted more towards higher-CFM applications like auto body work as opposed to driving nailers and such. [...]
