I'd rather you lined up the laser, pressed a button, and the laser did the cut. *That* would be futuristic!

I coughed up for a small sliding rail mitre with laser from ProPower (I think) and it is far more capable than the old cheap & nasty it replaced, in spite of having half the saw blade diameter. The laser is bob on, and I find it really speeds things up. It's a little bit out when you do mitre and compound cuts, but not by much, on straight cuts the beam hits the blade teeth.

Everything's better with lasers! It's the future! Seriously, I've often wondered about the calibration of these laser guided devices. It would be worth it if they really hold true, but somehow I doubt it.

That is too bad Ivan, I have a 5 or 6 year old Craftsman Laser miter saw and the laser is so dead on that the carbide teeth in the blade partially obscure the laser line. The laser is behind the arbour nut just like a blade stiffener so it is basically adjustment free. The rest of the saw is just barely ok though.

A couple years ago I bought a miter with laser but am not happy with it at all. The laser line is at least 3/8" off. This makes is useless and almost worse because you see it and still want to use it.
So now I'm offsetting it in my mind but do it the old-fashion way, bring the saw down and notice where it touches the wood.
Ha-ha, in my old days we didn't had that crap, so why bother now.
Though I can see the advantages when mitter cutting!
