I wish there were more high quality palm ratchets available. I don't like the look of any of them except the Snap-ons, so I've been waiting (and waiting) for one of those to show up cheap on ebay.

I think that the Snap-on ones will provide just the right amount of torque vs. space for some of the work I do. And I'm pretty sure I'll love it once I have it.

On a ratchet-related note, has anyone used the Britool clutch ratchets? Or, for that matter, converted an SK "Tuff 1" ratchet to "Palm Control"?

I loooove my thumb ratchet! I picked up a cheap Chinese version for $3 at the local shady-import shop, and it's come in handy embarassingly often. The mechanism is terrible, it takes about 15 degrees of sweep to "ratch", and the backforce necessary before it does is sort of absurd. But being a thumb ratchet, I can just spin it in my fingers if there's that little torque involved.

Work sent me to another state a few months back, and I had some hard decisions to make regarding what tools to stuff in my luggage, and what to leave behind. I ended up taking a single set of Craftsman 1/4" drive deep sockets and matching ratchet, some extension bars, and that Chinese thumb ratchet. Left all the 3/8" stuff at home. Guess which piece got the most use?

If I see a good American-made version at a decent price, I might have to pick one up. I can't seem to find them on Sears.com, oddly enough.
